Sundance Vacations Employees Amara D., Marlene C., Jenna K., and Karen M.

On Friday, November 9, Leadership Wilkes-Barre and the Alumni Council hosted their annual “Leadership on Tap” at the FM Kirby Center lobby in downtown Wilkes-Barre!

The event is a social mixer and a great networking opportunity which was open to the public. Tickets were $20 in advance and $25 at the door. Admission includes beer and wine tasting,  and food courtesy of more than a dozen area restaurants. During the event they also had live music by Beth Connor of Perfect Harmony.

Sundance Vacations employees Amara D., Marlene C., Jenna K., and Karen M. also went to the event. When Marlene was asked about the event, she said, “I think it was a great event to mingle with other businesses, and learn about or sample what they had to offer. The thing that blew me away had to be the local vocalist, who was amazing!” she said with a smile.

More about Leadership Wilkes-Barre

Leadership Wilkes-Barre is an independent, non-profit organization with 501(c)(3) status whose mission is to develop informed and committed leaders from all segments of the community who will serve, strengthen and improve Northeastern Pennsylvania. Its original program, Leadership Wilkes-Barre, is a tuition-based community leadership development program for adults. It began in the summer of 1981, when the idea was presented to a group of community leaders by then Executive Director of the Greater Wilkes-Barre Chamber of Commerce, John Sheehan.

Leadership Wilkes-Barre has six programs: Core, Executive, Junior, Intercollegiate, and their newest program, Impact, for regional primary and secondary teachers.

The programs foster civic engagement of emerging leaders and include them in the Greater Wilkes-Barre community structure.  The goal is to seek out future leaders and provide them with the information, skills and training needed to become leaders and active participants in the community.  The programs are aimed at a spectrum of participants ranging from adolescents and seniors to mid-career professionals and newcomers to Northeastern Pennsylvania.

There are over 2,000 alumni that have graduated from their programs.  Many direct or influence the operation of small and large companies and a multitude of nonprofit organizations and government agencies. Each participant strongly believes that Leadership Wilkes-Barre offers invaluable skills, networking opportunities and friendships for a lifetime.
