Wilkes-Barre, PA – July 13, 2022 – Jody Miller, a participant in the 2022 Giants Despair Hillclimb and the son of Associate Vice President of Marketing, Denise Miller, placed second in his class with his Sundance Vacations sponsored car.

The Giants Despair Hillclimb is an annual event that is held in Laurel Run, Pennsylvania, in which drivers traverse the winding one-mile long, six-turn mountain in the speediest time possible. The first hillclimb was held in 1906, and each year, drivers are determined to beat previous years’ records. According to Pennsylvania’s Hillclimb Association, “It is one of the oldest continuing motor racing events in the world.” The tradition is loved by citizens of the Wilkes-Barre area and out-of-towners alike.  Many excited visitors travel miles to watch the race—some even camp overnight to get the best viewing spots at each twist and turn.

This year, the hillclimb was held from Friday, July 8th to Sunday, July 10th, and many different makes and models of cars (such as Jaguars. Mustangs, and Corvettes) quickly filled up the parking lot in anticipation to begin preparations. Only one of those cars would place second in the DSP class with a time of 52.110 seconds—Jody Miller in his 2010 Honda Civic! In the overall raw results, Miller placed 48 with his incredible best time of 52.110 seconds.

Miller was originally inspired to participate in the Giants Despair Hillclimb by his friends in attendance, and as they say, the rest is history! This year marks his fourth year as a Giants Despair driver. His experience with autocross, time trials, and track days prepared him mentally and physically for this year’s hillclimb event. When Miller was asked about his sponsorship with Sundance Vacations and how it has impacted his racing, he said, “without them, I wouldn’t be able to do what I do. They’re part of the reason the car is where it’s at today.” With all of his outstanding achievements, Miller will keep soaring to new hillclimb heights and Sundance Vacations will continue to support this racing endeavors!

Congratulations to Jody Miller, #003, and the rest of the 2022 Giants Despair Hillclimb participants! We’re already looking forward to next year’s amazing, fast-paced event.
