A Sundance Vacations Tennessee property in Gatlinburg was affected by the recent wildfires spreading through the city and eastern regions of the state.
Our property Eight Gables, located on North Mountain Trail in Gatlinburg, was burned down to ashes this past Monday, November 28 along with many other homes in the area.
Of the ten square miles that make up the city of Gatlinburg, over half of the land faced damages from the fire, including approximately 700 other structures like Eight Gables in Sevier County. Great Smoky Mountain State park officials estimate 17,000 acres were burned as of Thursday at noon.
It’s no surprise why the flames spread so quickly: when the infernos were at their strongest, wind gusts whipped flames at nearly 90 mph according to USA Today. Officials are working towards solutions to quenching the growing number of fires.
Although we lost a property in Tennessee, luckily no one was harmed and the downtown area remains unscathed.
With the downtown city unaffected, Gatlinburg is sure to still drive industry to recover from its recent damages.
All clients with previous reservations are being contacted and assisted in rescheduling their trips to one of our neighboring properties in Pigeon Forge, Sevierville and the summit of Gatlinburg.
“We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused our travelers,” said Tina Dowd, Sundance Vacations co-founder. “We are truly sorry to see our elegant Eight Gables location go. It was a favorite adult-only getaway and we hope to eventually offer another Sundance Vacations property in Tennessee.”
