THON and Sundance Vacations Partner to Help Fight Children’s Cancer

Sundance Vacations has partnered with the Penn State Dance Marathon, also known as THON, to help raise funds for the Four Diamonds Fund, which helps children battling pediatric cancers.

The Four Diamonds Fund provides direct support to nearly 600 kids with cancer each year at the Penn State Children’s Hospital in Hershey, Pennsylvania.  The fund has helped over 3,400 children since its creation in 1972 and has been continuing to battle these cancers by researching new treatments and cures to benefit not just kids in Pennsylvania, but around the world.  Any child that is battling cancer at the Penn State Children’s Hospital in Hershey is eligible for support from the Four Diamonds Fund.

The Dance Marathon is an annual event that has been helping to raise funds for the Four Diamonds Fund for years and is run by the students and staff of Penn State University.  In 2014, THON raised close to $13.4 million and donated 96% of those funds to the Four Diamonds Fund.  THON is one weekend a year, which happens to take place between February 20 and 22 this year, but the buildup and preparation for the event takes place all year long.

How does Sundance Vacations plan on helping THON out this year?  Rather than just donate money, we thought it would be fun to allow our travelers to have a chance to help out too.  We have partnered with THON and pledged to donate $10 for every vacation package that we sell during the THON weekend.

Other such businesses that have similar promotions include: Happy Valley Tickets, Fan Material, Harrison’s Wine Grill and Catering, Cold Stone Creamery and Insomnia Cookies.  We hope to raise as much money as we can for this great cause and hope that you will join in too.  You can find a link to our promotion on the THON website here: “Sundance Vacations THON Promotion”

THON has been around since 1973 and is the largest student-run charity event in the world.  THON will begin at 6 PM on Friday, February 20 and will take place in Penn State’s Bryce Jordan Center.  You can watch a live streaming webcam of the event all weekend long along with over 150,000 other projected viewers.

To learn more about  THON you can visit their website at THON.org, follow them on Twitter, like them on Facebook, check out their photos and videos on Instagram and read their blog!

Additional information about Sundance Vacations’ charitable efforts can be found on our new charity site.  We offer a library of local and national charities that we donate to, you can find more information about what they do, where they are located and how you can help them.  This month’s featured charity is, of course, The Penn State Dance Marathon.  You can find the site at www.SundanceVacationsCharities.com.

Together we can help fight children’s cancers.  Whether it is through dancing, traveling or donating, all of us have something we can do to help.  Be a part of the THON team and help be a hero for children!
